Gifts to Campus Recreation contribute to...
Campus Rec offers subsidized Outdoor Adventure trips for UIS students. Some trips have registration fees that can prohibit some students from attending. Your donations can help those students attend.
We plan several day trips that are very affordable such as hiking, canoeing, and kayaking, but also have several larger trips each year that have a little more of a cost. For example, we go whitewater rafting in West Virginia. After Campus Recreation subsidizes the cost, it is around $150 per student. This is similar to the cost for students to attend a weekend trip skiing in Wisconsin, as $200 covers hotel, lift ticket and equipment rental. We have two other trips that are less than those, but still have a cost that can be prohibitive. We go to Missouri for a weekend kayaking while staying in a lodge. This costs $50 per student. Finally, we do a day ski trip to the Quad Cities which costs $55 and includes transportation, lift ticket, equipment rental and a lesson. Most of these trips fill quickly, but we want to make it where the fee isn't prohibitive for any student.
Donations to Campus Recreation will be put into a scholarship for these trips. The way our trips are organized allows for students that have never experienced whitewater rafting or skiing to still have fun. These donations could help a student try skiing or see a different part of the country for the first time.
