Hear, Here! 50 Years of Service by NPR Illinois
When it comes to getting the news you need, NPR Illinois has you covered. Whether it be learning about your neighbors through Community Voices, or analyzing the current political climate during State Week, the NPR Illinois team keeps you informed.
For nearly 50 years we have delivered in-depth news reports, expert analysis on local and statewide issues, and held informative engagement events – all while upholding the integrity, ethics and philosophies of public journalism.
We do this because of YOU. Thanks to YOUR generosity, we serve YOU and OUR community. We are a family. Through YOUR gifts, we can use public media to grow our community.
What can your gift mean? When it comes to NPR network programming:
- $360 pays for one episode of Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me!
- $180 pays for the fees for one day of Morning Edition
- $125 pays for the fees for one day of All Things Considered
- $90 pays for one day of Fresh Air
- $70 pays for one day of Here & Now
- $3 pays for one top-of-the-hour NPR newscast
... and that doesn't count the cost of labor or technology to deliver it to you! A pair of headphones used by on-air talent can run $80 each, and a new microphone for one of the studios comes in at $449 each. There are unexpected expenses like equipment repairs too. Your gifts truly power our work.
Any gift of at least $50 during the year-end drive will qualify you for a special, 50th anniversary mug thanks to our partnership with Grab-A-Java. Mugs are available for pickup starting Dec. 2 at our studios on the UIS campus from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as the Grab-A-Java at 300 Chatham Road in Springfield starting Dec. 3. Mugs must be picked up; we anticipate holding meet-and-greet gatherings in January throughout our coverage area for donors to receive mugs if they cannot make it to the studio or Grab-A-Java.
So “Hear, Here’s! To 50 years of service.” With your help, we can start the path to 50 more years on a firm footing.
THANK YOU to the first online donors to our year-end campaign! You successfully met the first $5,000 match. Thank you to the anonymous donor for that match. Our SECOND $5,000 match, from a different donor, is now in play. Thanks to those two donors, the first $10,000 donated is going to get us up to $20,000. We so appreciate everyone's support for NPR Illinois!
1 day ago by Kate McKenzieWe had a great Giving Tuesday! Ten of our loyal listeners came out to the Grab-a-Java on Chatham Road to make a gift to our year-end drive and get the latest addition to the NPR Illinois mug club! Make your gift of $50 or more during December and Director of Development Kate McKenzie will be in touch on how you can pick up your mug!
